Hazrat Umar Ibn Khattab (R.A)

Hazrat Umar Ibn Khattab (R.A)

Umar Ibn Khattab (R.A) was born in 586 CE in the tribe of Quraish and was the second Caliph of Islam. He was one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and son in law.

Hazrat Umar (R.A) was one of the greatest opponents of Islam when it was being preached in secrecy. However, he had a change of heart and converted into Islam. After that Muslims would say their prayers openly. He is known for his justice in the history. It is due to this quality that he was given the title of Farooq. When he took charge of the designation of Caliph after  Hazrat Abu Bakar Sadeeq (R.A) the Muslim empire expanded to its maximum where, it reached to Eastern Roman Empire along with the conquering of Sassanid Persian Empire. He married his daughter Hafsa with Prophet (PBUH).

Hazrat Umar(R.A) was assassinated by a Persian assassin in year 644 while he was saying the Fajar prayer. He lies at rest in Masjid-e-Nabwi alongside of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad  (PBUH) and Abu Bakar (R.A).
